Cycle Tourism in Mallorca

With 2,071 km of roads and local lanes, Mallorca has become a leading destination for cycling enthusiasts. The varied terrain, pleasant Mediterranean climate, and an entire infrastructure designed to meet the demands of cycling routes make this island a unique location globally.

Mallorca boasts a long cycling tradition, reflected in its passionate local following and the numerous velodromes built since the early 20th century. This land has been the cradle of elite athletes such as Joan Llaneras and Guillem Timoner.

Cycling can be enjoyed year-round, although October to May is the most recommended period. In fact, it is common to see top professional teams hosting their training camps here in December. The event that kicks off the cycling calendar is the Mallorca Challenge, an elite race typically held in late January.

Specialised Services for Cyclists

Cyclists choose Mallorca not only for its beauty but for an unrivalled tourism offering. More than 120 hotels are specialised in cycling, providing services such as bike hire and repairs, tailored menus, and sports massages.

Furthermore, we have a Cycling Route Plan that classifies roads and paths according to their level of safety and traffic (priority routes, suitable routes, or not recommended), ensuring a safe and professional experience.

As a tool to improve the cycling experience, the Cycling Route Plan classifies roads and paths into “not recommended,” “suitable,” and “priority” routes based on safety levels and traffic density.

Based on this division, a series of routes have been developed with varying degrees of difficulty regarding distance and elevation gain. These are grouped into four distinct areas, forming a consistent network that covers the entire island. The 16 proposed routes have a total length of 1,732 km and connect major population centres with points of interest such as villages, lighthouses, hermitages, and the great mountain range of the Serra de Tramuntana. These routes feature specific signposting and can be combined according to each cyclist’s interests.
