Arriving in Mallorca by Plane: Son Sant Joan International Airport (PMI)

The quickest and most convenient way to reach the island is by air. Palma de Mallorca Airport (PMI), also known as Son Sant Joan, is Spain’s third busiest airport and one of the Mediterranean’s primary connectivity hubs.

Operating year-round with over 70 airlines, it connects the island to major European capitals in less than 3 hours. Madrid is just a 1-hour flight away, while Barcelona is a mere 30 minutes away.

Terminal Guide: What to find on each floor

The airport is structured as a single three-storey passenger terminal, designed to facilitate a smooth flow for travellers:

Ground Floor (Planta 0): Arrivals and Welcome Services

This is where your island experience begins. You will find:

  • Car hire offices (Rent-a-car).
  • The Mallorca Tourist Information Office.
  • Meeting Point and Lost Property service.

Second Floor (Planta 2): Check-in and Tax-Free

The area dedicated to check-in and baggage drop-off. Additionally, the VAT refund office (Tax-Free) for non-EU residents is located here.

Fourth Floor (Planta 4): Departures and Shopping Area

Access level for security checkpoints, duty-free shopping zones, and access to all boarding gates.

Parking and Access

The main multi-storey car park is located opposite the terminal; its fourth floor connects directly to the Departures area via an internal walkway. For longer stays, there is a long-stay car park connected by a free shuttle bus (a 4-minute journey).

Transport: Getting from the Airport to your Destination

The airport is situated just 8 km from Palma city centre and minutes away from areas such as Platja de Palma and s’Arenal. Upon exiting the Arrivals area, you will find:

  • Taxis: Official taxi rank located outside the terminal exit.
  • City Buses (EMT): Routes A1 (Palma Centre) and A2 (Platja de Palma).
  • Inter-island Buses (Aerotib): Routes A11, A32, A42, and A51 connecting to various strategic points across the island.

Accessibility: Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM)

As part of our commitment to accessible tourism, the airport offers a barrier-free assistance service in both Departures and Arrivals.

Important: It is recommended to request this service at least 48 hours in advance to ensure the best possible care. The main car park has reserved spaces on all floors.
